David - Magical Metal Man

David Redmond has worked with us for about 5 years creating our designs in metal.  David worked in art metals in high school where he was friends with our oldest daughter. He then got his welding certificate at Butte college and we were anxious to have him help take our glass to a new level. David's work allows the glass to combine with metal in a sculptural presentation. It also allows us to take on larger installations and lighting. He forms the metal to conform to each glass piece individually. The metal is then powder coated for a more permanent patina. Currently David also teaches helicopter flying so we only see him a couple of times a week. He has settled into a wonderful life with his partner, Diana, close by. We hope he is around forever because he is a delight to work with and can do anything in metal with an attention to fine detail. Thank you for being on our team David!

Karen Willenbrink-Johnsen class

We just returned from a most amazing experience! A workshop with Karen Willenbrink-Johnsen and Jasen Johnsen. They are our mentors and inspiration for the Shorebirds and have really helped push us into a new world. It was held at Public Glass in San Francisco and Chris was the honored assistant. Here are a few of my favorite images from their demos. Check out her website. You won't believe what she can sculpt in glass. She has an acute understanding of the natural world that I can only hope to aquire. It is the attention to detail that she accomplishes that makes me want to slow down and observe more around me. My photography definitely helps me to slow down and observe but I will make more time for that process in my life so I can continue to grow creatively. Thank you Karen and Jasen for your inspiration.

Fireplace installation

We loved working with the angle of this fireplace. A bit of a climb up the ladder! The glass is a "Celebration" of color. Coral, gold topaz, amethyst and aqua. It reminds me of Carnival in Columbia where our youngest daughter is back packing with friends and cousin Nora is teaching school. It seems far away, but their photos are so colorful that I wish I could be there with my camera.

Point Reyes

This has been a big week for installations. A Point Reyes Trio has been installed in a beautiful home on a ridge overlooking the foothills. A wonderful location! Our glass compliments paintings by Lee Ann Brooks in both the home and office.

Pendant Chandelier in Colorado

A warm, inviting pendant chandelier has just been installed in a Colorado home. We hope the Stone family will enjoy it for many years to come!

Happy NewYear!

Have a joyful 2013 with friends and family! We hope that peaceful days for all of the world are ahead. We spent midnight New Years Eve on Waikiki Beach. Home tomorrow.....

Watching the huge waves at Pipeline was a highlight for us. 15' to 20' with many washed out so they could not be surfed.
